The real force against the AKP government is on streets

Recent working class resistances in Turkey initiated a pattern change in Turkish politics, which had been shaped by the controversy between the armed forces and Justice and Development Party (AKP) or along ethnic conflicts. For the first time since 2001, the year when AKP came to power, there are significant signs of weakening in the social support base of the reactionary government. This is a critical moment for the future of Turkey and Turkish working class.

We want a solution to the Kurdish problem designed in Turkey

The recent solution initiative headed by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government has heated up the debate on Kurdish issue. The government and the liberal intellectuals supporting the government argue that we are passing through a historical moment because we have not been so close to the solution as we are today. When we say the Kurdish Issue, we must be sincere and keep away from denialism and simplifications.

We have the “Issue of Turkey” in our agenda

Today, the tension that we experience and the polarization that becomes known as the Kurdish Issue are unhealthy. This unhealthiness bears serious problems for our country and our peoples. First of all, the problem must be defined correctly. The problem is not a “terror” problem as some have been suggesting for many years. The problem is neither a “war” or “peace” problem as some others put forward.

The pitfalls behind the Kurdish reform

Recently Turkey has witnessed critical developments regarding the Kurdish issue. Just after local elections on March 29, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government has started to mention a Kurdish reform. In the meantime, President Abdullah Gül argued that the conditions are ripe for a solution and this statement has triggered a debate on the so-called solution. The spokesmen of the Kurdish movement, who weighed in with the debate from Mount Kandil, Northern Iraq, gave signals of conciliation through their “commission of wise men” proposal; hence new tensions and debates have accelerated over the issue.

New Ottomanism: A Major Threat to the People of the Region

After the demise of the Soviet Union, imperialism declared that it will not tolerate even minor gestures of independency within the “great Middle East” that covers all regions ranging from Balkans to Central Asia. For the last two decades, under the ideological cloak of “globalization”, imperialists have been claiming that national sovereignty has become antiquated.
